Hand in hand with Tree Nation, a platform whose mission is to reforest the world and thus combat climate change, we have created our precious “Nomomoto Forest” with the aim of reducing our emissions.
The year 2019, thanks to our team and our motivation, from Nomomoto, the Delivery brand of Grupo Nomo, we started our project «Zero Plastic», because we loved being take away but we were worried about contaminating. With this project, we managed to put aside plastic packaging from our take away orders, instead using biodegradable or ecofriendly materials. An ambitious project that… We achieved! During one year, we managed to save more than 2,000 kg of plastic in packaging. ZERO PLASTIC WEB 0001 For example, just with the sushi tray, our plastic consumption went from 220kg to 50kg. A reduction of more than 75%! But our change does not stop there, from the Nomomoto team we think that we still have a way to become a 100% friendly delivery with the environment.
What has been our next step? For this year 2020, our challenge is to reduce the emissions generated by our delivery service couriers to… Zero! By calculating the average distance travelled, type of motorcycle used and number of deliveries made, an approximate number of emissions generated is estimated. With this calculation, the number of trees needed to be planted is decided to offset the emissions generated. And with these trees we are creating the «Nomomoto Forest», which can also be visited. Last month we planted 22 holm oaks (Quercus Ilex), very resistant trees that, during their long life, produce immense amounts of litter, which fertilize the soil, and edible fruits for the fauna of the area . All the plantations were made near the Foix Reservoir (Castellet, Barcelona) next to ARBA Coastal System, a non-profit association for the recovery of native forests. And this has only just begun!
